Interview with Leslie Smith, an executive at Caltex Petroleum Corporation, discussing his educational background, the banking business in London, his employment with Caltex and his assignment with Bapco on Bahrain in 1937, the Bahraini royal family, Bapco policies, World War II, and post-World War II development on Bahrain. He also talks about his assignment to Caltex (New York) in 1957, the Caltex reorganization in 1957, Caltex West Fiscal, OPEC and Third World, and the re-entry of Socal and Texaco into the European market in 1967.

Leslie Malcolm Smith was born October 4, 1903 and graduated in 1922 from Oakland Technical High School. He received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California, Berkeley. From 1927 to 1942, Dr. Smith was stationed at the Deciduous Fruit Field Station of the University of California at San Jose, where he became known for his work on the biology and control of pests of prunes, pears, strawberries, walnuts, grapes, and berries.
